Biography

Robert Kyle Guinn is a Partner with the firm’s Miami office. He practices in the areas of first party property claims, commercial and residential properties defense, transportation, motor vehicle negligence, personal injury litigation, construction, and general civil litigation. Mr. Guinn’s practice group primarily focuses on handling litigation of numerous water, sinkhole, windstorm, hurricane, fire, SIU fraud, theft, vandalism, business personal property and business interruption claims. Mr. Guinn has represented domestic and international insurers in coverage disputes in both state and federal court. During his time at Cole, Scott, and Kissane, Mr. Guinn has tried numerous cases to verdict.

Recently, Mr. Guinn spent several months in London on secondment with a leading Lloyd’s syndicate and London broker. During that time, he gained a unique understanding of the insurance market and the vital role the relationships between brokers, insureds, insurers, reinsurers, and insurers’ counsel play in the claims resolution process. Mr. Guinn has spearheaded training in first party bad faith claims, COVID-19 pandemic business interruption claims, and new legislation concerning first party property insured and AOB claims, and is certified by the Department of Financial Services as an instructor for Continuing Education credits.

Prior to joining Cole, Scott & Kissane, Mr. Guinn spent six and a half years as an Assistant State Attorney with Miami-Dade County’s Office of the State Attorney. During his time as a prosecutor, Mr. Guinn tried numerous jury trials, developed an expertise in traffic homicide investigations, and for the final three years prosecuted violent life felonies, including armed robbery, sexual battery, and homicide cases.

Mr. Guinn obtained his Juris Doctor from the Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, where he was also an editor on Barry University’s Law Review. While attending law school, Mr. Guinn was on the Dean’s List and received honors in both Civil Procedure and Evidence. He was also an active competitor in the school’s nationally ranked mock trial advocacy program.

Mr. Guinn completed his undergraduate studies at Western Illinois University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration.
