Law Directory on CD-ROMThe Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory on CD-ROM combines the ease of use inherent in the Windows platform with the power of Folio infobase technology. We continually add features and functionality to improve the user experience. And the content continues to grow, with additional listings being added or updated with every release. In addition to the User Guide, detailed help resources are available within the Law Directory on CD-ROM. Click Help on the Law Directory home page, or to access context-sensitive online help, press F1 at any time. Please note: Current data will not work with applications installations made prior to Summer 2004. To ensure full access to current data, please re-install applications using current discs. Law Digest on CD-ROMThe Martindale-Hubbell Law Digest is now available on a fully searchable CD-ROM. Navigation is simple, as content is presented in logical groupings that are displayed as bookmarks. All you need is Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1 or higher to get started. In addition to the User Guide, assistance with all Law Digest on CD-ROM functions is available at any time by choosing Help from the left navigation pane. The document is opened as an Acrobat Reader file. You can scroll through the guide or print it as appropriate. General Tips and Tricks for Using the Law Directory on CD-ROMInstallation We also recommend that you close any open applications prior to installation. Complete installation instructions Searching While you cannot directly perform a search for an attorney with a certain practice area within a firm in a certain geography with a certain size, you can work around this. First, do the firm search. Then do a second search for attorneys within the firms of your first search results. This works best for narrow searches on firms (e.g., all firms larger than 100 attorneys in New York City that practice securities law). Sample Searches of the Law Directory on CD-ROMThe Law Directory on CD-ROM has a powerful search capacity. One of the easiest ways to learn how to use it is to download our sample searches. You can then modify them to meet your own needs. The files listed below can be easily downloaded. With most browsers, you begin the download by simply clicking the link. When prompted, choose Save and select a location for the file. (The default location of the Law Directory on CD-ROM is c:\mhlaw40, and we recommend that you place the sample searches in it.) Most users should choose the "single user" installation. Subscribers to our network version should choose Network Install and enter the password supplied. Will the Martindale-Hubbell® Law Directory on CD-ROM™ cause problems with other Folio products?A. No. The new Law Directory on CD-ROM version 4.4 can run on the same machine as other Folio products.Q. Will the Law Directory on CD-ROM replace/overwrite my old version?A. Installing version 4.4 will overwrite previous installations of version 4.4, but if you're currently using an older version, you should first uninstall it.Q. How do I remove older versions of Law Directory on CD-ROM?A. To remove the old version of the Law Directory on CD-ROM (Windows 95/98/NT), click Start, then Programs, then Martindale-Hubbell, then Uninstall Law Directory on CD-ROM. Windows 3.x & NT 3.5 users should go to File Manager and delete the MHLAW folder from drive C, then go to Program Manager and delete each icon from the Martindale Hubbell group by selecting each icon and selecting Delete under File (please note the space between Martindale and Hubbell; the new version has a hyphen). After all of the icons are removed, delete the group by clicking inside of the Martindale Hubbell group window and selecting Delete under File.Q. The program keeps prompting me to "Please insert the US Lawyers CD." What do I do?A. First, confirm that the correct CD-ROM is in the CD drive. If it already is, or if you are running off of a network tower, check to make sure the mh_inst.ini file is pointing to the correct CD-ROM drive/location. Next, try removing and re-inserting the disc. If that doesn't work, try closing and re-starting the Law Directory on CD-ROM application.Q. What does this message mean? - "Unable to open infobase (location). Error opening the file (location)."A. This message appears when the CD-ROM is not mounted on a drive or when a drive mapping to a network CD-ROM tower has been lost.Q. Why do I see this message? - "Please insert the US Lawyers CD."A. This error message appears when the program is unable to find either disc. Most likely this is a result of the old Folio 3 icon (US Lawyers & Firms) being used. Try using the new icon (Law Directory on CD-ROM) under Martindale-Hubbell or on your desktop. Check to confirm that the correct CD-ROM is in the CD drive and be sure that the drive mappings to the network tower are functioning.Q. Where can I find detailed desktop installation instructions?A. If you are unable to access the data on Disc 1, it is possible that you received one of these faulty discs. To correct this problem, we are in the process of remanufacturing Disc 1. Affected customers will receive a replacement disc within approximately two weeks. In the meantime, we encourage these customers to access firm and lawyer data on martindale.com®.
