Bar Profile:
The Alabama State Bar is the licensing and regulatory authority for lawyers in Alabama. It has nineteen committees, nine task forces and twenty one sections. The bar operates a Client Security Fund, a statewide Lawyer Referral Service, a statewide Volunteer Lawyers Program, a statewide Center for Dispute Resolution, a statewide Law Office Practice Management Program, a statewide Lawyers Assistance Program for Impaired Attorneys, a statewide Fee Dispute Resolution Program, and approved lawyer certification programs in a number of specialty fields of law. The Bar also has a skilled staff of professionals who administer the Alabama Bar exam as well as an experienced staff of attorneys and investigators who operate the Alabama Center for Professional Responsibility under the leadership of the General Counsel.

The Alabama Law Foundation has made grants of IOLTA funds over $11 million since 1989. Presently, some sixty-four percent of Alabama's lawyers eligible to participate in the IOLTA program do so. The Bar has a highly developed, effective network of communications tools and programs designed to respond to member need for timely information about bar activities as well as the public's need to know about lawyers and the administration of justice in Alabama.

The Alabama State Bar's award winning website is an ever expanding portal of information and services. The Bar recently produced a video, "To Serve the Public" which won a national "Telly" award for excellence.
